Prenatal Care at Versys Clinics

Prenatal Care at Versys Clinics

Prenatal care is a vital pillar of our institution: the arrival of every newborn is a moment of exceptional joy for us, and we celebrate it together with parents and families. The prenatal care program at Versys Clinics is not merely a series of regular medical checkups, but a supportive, secure framework where both the expectant mother and her unborn child receive the utmost care.

Our prenatal care ensures the conditions for a healthy pregnancy with the latest medical technologies, internationally recognized specialists, and our empathetic, well-prepared staff. If desired, individual consultations and group preparation sessions are also available to support physical and emotional readiness for childbirth and welcoming the baby.

Prenatal Care Protocol

During prenatal care, our highly qualified obstetrician-gynecologists accompany the pregnancy in an aesthetic environment with the help of expert and empathetic staff and modern technology.

As part of the professional program at Versys Clinics – Obstetrics and Gynecology, patients struggling with infertility can continue prenatal care with their treating physician and, if requested, deliver their baby with their physician's assistance.

We also warmly welcome patients who conceived naturally to the Versys Clinics Obstetrics and Gynecology department.

Main steps of the prenatal care protocol:

Initial Visit

  • Estimation of gestational age and expected due date
  • First ultrasound: To examine the location and status of the pregnancy (intrauterine/ectopic, yolk sac, embryo, heartbeat)
    • Before week 6: only gestational sac and yolk sac visible
    • Weeks 6–8: embryo and heart tube pulsation appear
  • Based on results, the next exam takes place 7–10 days later to assess the embryo's appearance, size, and heartbeat

In accordance with professional guidelines, the pregnant woman is referred to a district midwife, who provides the maternity care booklet to be brought to all exams and into which all medical procedures are documented. Four medical stamps are also needed to apply for maternity support.

First Trimester (Weeks 0–12)

  • Vaginal ultrasound every 10–14 days
  • At ~Week 11: First trimester lab tests and optionally non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) from blood sample to screen for chromosomal abnormalities
  • NIPT does not replace the ultrasound screening performed between weeks 11+6 and 13+6. Their combination provides the most reassuring result regarding fetal health

Second Trimester (Weeks 13–28)

  • Week 16: General lab + abdominal ultrasound. Glucose tolerance test if indicated
  • Weeks 18+0 – 21+6: Second trimester genetic ultrasound with additional evaluation of fetal spine and brain structures
  • Week 24: Extended lab panel + OGTT (2-point glucose tolerance test):
    • Fasting blood draw
    • Intake of 75g glucose (premixed, lemon flavored)
    • Blood draw after 2 hours
    • Concurrent ultrasound exam
  • Follow-up after 3 weeks if symptom-free

Third Trimester (From Week 28)

  • Week 30: General lab + third trimester ultrasound + birth planning discussion
  • Three weeks later: follow-up ultrasound
  • Week 36: Final extended lab panel
    • Anesthesiology consultation at Maternity Clinic with lab results
    • Group B Streptococcus screening from vaginal discharge
    • Assessment of fetal size, position, and blood flow (Flowmetry)

At this stage, it is possible to register at our partner hospital, Maternity Private Clinic, for contract purposes. If an elective cesarean section is planned, the date is also arranged here. Fetal neurosonography is also available if indicated.

CTG Exams (from Week 36 until delivery)

From this point, CTG (cardiotocography) monitoring begins to assess fetal well-being. From Week 36 until birth, this is performed weekly, then several times a week, and daily 1–2 times after Week 40. For accurate results, the baby must be active (not asleep), so it is recommended to bring snacks (if not on a diet).

Further examinations depend on delivery method, maternal and fetal condition, and possible maternal concerns.

Important: Although our protocol involves frequent visits, our priority is the maximum safety of parents and their child.
